TV can be a good source of inspiration too!

Last night as I was browsing through the web during my study break, I landed upon an Emmy Roundtable from 2011 featuring women with lead roles in tv dramas. I was kind of hesitant to start watching the interview because it was an hour long and I kinda had to get back to my books but I watched it anyway, and i did not regret it one bit. These women are so inspirational in the work that they do and in their individual lives. I have great respect for them all, and frankly I’m a bit peeved that most of them don’t get recognized for their work as much as I think they should, but thats for a different blog post.
The interview features Kelly McDonald, Christina Hendricks, Melissa Leo, Julieanna Margulies, Regina King, Katey Sagal and Connie Britton. Now having watched 4/7 shows that these women are on, I have great respect for the characters they play. They all play strong female leads in worlds that are extremely political and dominated by men: a football coach’s wife in texas; a wife of a motorcycle club’s president; a 1920′s politician’s love interest; an office manager in the 60s, yet they all have created an identity for themselves within the realm of the shows and are an integral part of that world. Of course, the writers on that show are the creators of these characters, but these women bring them to life in a manner that is so believable, that you can see bits & piece of their characters in this interview and their real life personalities on the screen.
The facilitator started off with asking the ladies about the best advice they had ever received in regards to their professional careers. This question ended up shaping the overall tone and theme of the roundtable. They talked about the challenges they’ve faced in personal and professional lives, and how it impacts the decisions they make in their lives. Its amazing how the challenges we all face are very similar across various industries.
Overall, this interview is a great source of inspiration, for men and women alike, and I hope you watch a little bit of it.
ps. this totally reflects the inner tv-a-holic in me, but i’ve never been one to hide that fact.
Patterns.
Sometimes we repeat them without even realizing that we are.
Struck like lightning.
Look Ma! I changed a tire.

So I went to watch a movie today and when i got back in my car and started driving, i felt like something was off. So I hopped out of the car to check what was wrong. My friend, who I was giving a ride home, though that the axle broke off.
So obvs, not sure whats going, on I called my dad who came to where I was, with the help of my friend, who had to drive him since my sister had the other car. When he got there, he confirmed that it was indeed a flat tire. Phew.
Thats nothing. My dad’s changed tires before, he knew how to fix it. So we go the spare and the tools and got started. Now my dad has a bad shoulder, which happens to be his dominant one. So halfway through I had to end up taking over and I changed the tire all by myself (with some parental supervision).
Did i mention it was pouring rain outside? Well duh, its vancouver. And afterwards, as pictured above, I got myself some Starbucks to reward my self.
All in all, just another day.
